I Heart Fall

Fall has finally come and do you know what that means? Coffee, layers, darker colors, coats, boots, and rain! Yay! Autumn has fast approached us and I am in love with the new, as well as the revived fall trends.

Has the thought crossed your mind that you need to do an impulsive wardrobe change? Being the therapy shopper I am, the thought has definitely crossed my mind, but being in college and being limited to my spending, I have come to notice that all it takes is a little sprucing up to create the perfect cold weather wardrobe.

First off, you need to layer, it’s freezing here in San Francisco. No need to throw out your old hooded sweatshirts or cardigans, because you can layer both very nicely with a denim or leather jacket. If you’re tired of your old denim or leather jacket, do something different and stud the collar/shoulders or iron on your favorite rock band patches to add an edgy look. Jackets aren’t the only thing to layer; you can also layer with jewelry, stack your favorite watch alongside some threaded, spiked, or jem bracelets. Scarves and beanies are also a staple to have and go with every cold weather outfit.

Here are the items that I adore and also noticed as a thriving trend:

*Military- It Looks good with everything, so rock your old military jacket or bottoms by adding some new glam to it. Wear it with some leather pants, tights, high waist shorts, a pastel tee, or some eye-catching jewelry.

*Tartan flannels/scarves- I think tartan or plaid is a classic staple. A flannel is a great way to layer and looks amazing with a pair of jeans, leggings, an oversized tee and some sneakers or flats. Tartan scarves are cool because you can dress them up or down. You can add a tartan scarf to an all black outfit with some Doc Martins, bold colored flats, or knee high boots.

*Embellished collars- Oh how I love this look! You can really take the menswear look to a whole other level when it’s embellished. I’ve noticed that I like pull over sweaters over the embellished collared top. This look is quite simple and can easily be made at home with your dad’s old collared button up, using some spikes, studs, or beads. I find this really useful considering my college minimum budget life style. It’s also pretty sweet to get compliments on something you’ve made!

*Maxi skirts/dresses- They are simple yet very classy and stylish. I like the way a maxi skirt looks with a loose off the shoulder top tucked into it, as well as a simple tee or crop top. A belt on top of that can add character to your outfit. If you make a knot at the bottom of the skirt it looks edgy with combat boots or you can throw on a pair of ballet flats or gladiator sandals. Layering on top of a maxi skirt can also add to this simple look, an oversized cardigan or a denim jacket can totally make this summer outfit look very wintery by throwing on a scarf as well.

*Faux fur cheetah coats/ faux fur vests- The faux fur cheetah coat looks great with red or any bold color. Wear it with tights or straight-legged jeans and some bold lipstick and you will feel edgy like Gwen Stefani! The faux fur vest on the other hand is much more versatile. You can wear it with pretty much anything because it’s so funky. I also love the faux fur collars that you can buy and throw onto any outfit as if it were a necklace. It’s a great accessory.

*Galaxy/floral/printed tights- I’ve learned the more bold the pattern the better! These pieces are a pretty self-explanatory statement that can be dressed up or down.  Etsy and Ebay have some really cute skull and funky printed ones.

I hope this post helps some of you budget babes add some flare to your wardrobe or think twice before throwing out your old clothes. Anything can be redefined. Just be yourself and wear what you want. On another note, if you must throw out some of your outdated clothes donate them and buy new clothes from a thrift shop! It’s a great donation and the clothes are unique and cheap. What more could you want?

Happy shopping and fall festivities fashionistas!

That is the key of this collection, being yourself. Don’t be into trends. Don’t make fashion own you, but you decide what you are, what you want to express by the way you dress and the way you live.“-Gianni Versace
